Literary Translations
I am currently translating Exposure《曝光》 (creative non-fiction) by 李嘉儀 Ka Yee Lee, supported by Words Without Borders’ Momentum Grant, and The 2025 Emerging Translator Mentorship with The American Literary Translators Association. PostMag has featured the project in an interview on translated/translating literature from Hong Kong.
Published by PS Cultural Collaboration 後話文字工作室, Exposure is hypnotic blend of travel writing, memoir, reading notes, and poetry. It spans Canada, Thailand, Taiwan, the United States, and British-colonial and post-handover Hong Kong, where Ka Yee Lee, the author, has personal connections. Exploring the trajectory of light, weapons, and everything in between, Lee holds space for introspection without turning away from intergenerational traumas and resistance. A series of awakenings, Exposure (whose title alludes to long-exposure photography) considers global migration paths as a route to the making of the self.
With layered, erudite storytelling and sumptuous language, Lee’s work bridges hyperlocal political contexts and transcultural experiences. Unapologetically faithful, Exposure poses timely questions: What if understanding oneself is the first step for collective healing? What does it mean to walk with wounds, to confront abuse?
I also serve as one of the translation advisory board members of the other side of hope: journeys in refugee and immigrant literature.
